I would have updated in Valdez, but the cabin was right on the edge of the wifi range, and I frankly didn’t want to fart with it. So I skipped a day, then I didn’t change the camera, so a day late on photos as well. But here is the update.
We got the bikes on the 4th of July and rode all the way to Valdez. The ride was good until we got closer to Valdez. Knobby tires and rain doesn’t mix, but it was fun non the less. Since Valdez was a last minuote change, I was only able to get a small cabin at an RV Park. It worked out well and was a great place to park the bikes for the night. I would recommend and stay at Eagle Rest RV park again. For dinner we wen’t to Mike’s place. One of the local places. Mike needs to tell his cooks to be nice to the servers. Our server named Liz was totally awesome. He was kinda hesitant to tell us her name. I figured she was part of the witness protection program or something. He was a sweatheart, and was a great server as well as a wealth of information. She let us know where the best place for the fireworks would be. She was right.
We were able to bo see the fireworks with some new friends. It just so happned that the whole crew from the Northwestern on the show Deadliest Catch on the discovery channel. http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/deadliestcatch/crews/sig-hansen.html – They were out for a little RR and boy can they party. All good guys, and fun. Watching fireworks when it’s day lightout is pretty weird. It was 10:30pm and it was totally day light. So far that is the weird part. We did stop and see some Glaciers on the way that rocked.
This morning we got up and drove one of the longer stretches on the trip from Valdez to Fairbanks. On the way of course my bike has developed an electrical problem. Go figure. No headlight, high or low beam, and no fuses a blown. Fortunately I know a bit about the bike, so I can fix it tomorrow. I did already test the headlight bulb and it looks good. Now I have a spare.
Tonight we had a great dinner at Pike’s landing. Not sure what the day will hold tomorrow, but I do know it will involve dirt, and for some reason I am really digging riding on dirt.
Here are some photos. I am in the bumblebee suit.
