I think I am part Chinese. Beijing was like coming home. It’s interesting to see what has changed since we are here last. Today was a short visit to the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Unfortunately when you come by boat it’s about a 3 hr drive from the port. Ollie did well. We are very happy with his behavior today.
Since the Olympics were here in 2008 the city has really improved. It was like China’s coming out party when the Olympics were here. We spent a hr. at the square, and then walked over to the Forbidden City. It was nice to see all the restoration work that has been done to freshen up the place.
The Chinese are interesting because of the thousands of years of History and the Preservation that has taken place. Unfortunately during the communist reign, much was destroyed, however it seems like many people secretly hid things so they are slowly being returned.
We have lots of photos, so you can see the detail in the buildings and roofs. If you have seen my other photos, I like the roofs. What can I say, I have a thing for the roof.
Next stop is in Russia. We were supposed to be going to Korea, however due to the fact the North Korea and South Korea have recently thrown big rocks at each other, we won’t be stopping. After Russia, we goto Japan, then on to Tokyo and finally home. I will post again after Russia. To be honest, we are not sure what we are going to see there. However the port we are going to is the same port/city that Charlie and Ewin went to in the motorcycle movie “Long Way Round”. It’s a small world.
I will be constantly updating our photo gallery at http://www.brian.net/brian/asia
